Obituary for Anne Courtois

Anne Courtois, age 90, entered eternal life on Monday, June 13, 2022, with family by her side. Anne was born to Milford and Agnes (Curran) Brown in Ann Arbor, Michigan on January 23, 1932. She was raised in Wayne and attended St. Mary’s Academy in Monroe for high school. Anne earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a teacher’s certificate from Marygrove College in Detroit. She taught kindergarten in Wayne for several years. Anne then attained a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Michigan.

While at the University of Michigan, she met the love of her life, Donald Courtois, who survives. Married for 65 years, Anne and Don raised five children: Paul (Colleen), Kevin (Michele), Mark (Maria), Andrew (Carolyn), and Joan (Kevin) Carley. Anne later resumed working in education. She served as a librarian at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School in Orlando, Florida, where the family resided for several years, and after returning to Ann Arbor, as a media specialist for Fr. Gabriel Richard High School for ten years.

Anne and her family were long-time members of the Catholic community at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Ann Arbor where Anne was active in several school and church groups. Anne was devoted to praying the Rosary and initiated a Rosary prayer group in her neighborhood that met weekly for over two decades.

As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Anne was greatly blessed with the love of fifteen grandchildren: Brendan Courtois; Mariele Courtois and Michael (Karissa) Courtois; Christian Courtois, Katherine Courtois, Phillip Courtois, and Matthew Courtois; Andrew Courtois, Jr., Emily Courtois, and Ashley Courtois; Claire Carley, Joseph Carley, Anna Carley, Neil Carley, and Gemma Carley; a great-grandchild, John Courtois, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Anne was preceded in death by her sisters, Peggy (John) Dudar and Mary (James) Brady; her brother, Milford Brown, Jr.; and a great-grandchild, Joanna Courtois.

Friends may join the family for a visitation on Monday, June 20, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2250 East Stadium Blvd., Ann Arbor, Michigan. The funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School Educational Trust Fund or to Father Gabriel Richard Catholic High School in Ann Arbor.

The family thanks both StoryPoint Saline for the loving care provided to Anne as she battled Parkinson’s disease in recent years, and CorsoCare for their tender hospice support during Anne’s final days.
