Obituary for Albert "Al" O. Fullilove

Albert Otis Fullilove was born in Honey Island (Tchula) Mississippi on January 1, 1943 to James and Martha Fullilove. He was the sixth of 15 children.

Al leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Doris; sisters, Dorothy, Laura, Allie B. (Tommy), Daisy, Emma (Leanell); and brothers, James and Michael; his daughters, Lisa, Stephanie (Tim) and Ayana Meesha (Jimmy); grandsons, Kevin, Ryan, and Seth Elija. Al also leaves two great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews including one very faithful nephew, A.J. Johnson who contacted him daily for many years.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Johnie B., Ruby Lee, Bertha Ann; and his brothers, John Lacy, Edward, Eric, Earl and Booker.

Al graduated from McNair High School in Benzoni, Mississippi in 1960. Following high school he moved to Detroit, Michigan and soon joined the US Army. Following his military service, he returned to the Detroit area where he worked in automotive sales for many years.

In 2011, he met Doris and they married on February 14, 2013. They traveled and enjoyed a wonderful, peaceful life together. During this time, they were led to the Ann Arbor Baptist Church. Al organized, lead, and was a Minister in the Ministerial Services Program in local Assisted Living Facilities.

Al was a faithful Christian from an early age. As a young boy, he ushered in the Jones Chapel in Honey Island, Mississippi. He knew and loved the Lord and honored Him all his life. On June 11, 2000, he was Ordained as a Minister of the Gospel at Brown’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan.

Al found the hobby of flying remote controlled airplanes most enjoyable. He spent many hours in Canton, Michigan flying the planes and talking to the other members of the Flying Pilgrims Club.

Al especially enjoyed family gatherings with lively conversations and good food. Family reunions were joyful occasions that always produced unmeasurable memories. Al’s presence and participation will be deeply missed by his wife, family and friends.

Al was a good man and prepared all of us for this day, as he said to many of us… “I am at peace and I know where I am going no matter what." More importantly, he wanted all of us to feel at peace too.

A funeral service will be held 11am Saturday, July 16, 2022 with visitation beforehand at 10am at Ann Arbor Baptist Church, 2150 S Wagner Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48103.
