Obituary for Anthony Joseph Ficaro

Anthony Joseph Ficaro, age 75, passed away in Superior Township, Michigan on August 24, 2022.

Anthony was born on May 8, 1947 to parents, Anthony and June in Houston, Texas. He was raised along with his siblings in South Windsor, Connecticut. Anthony graduated from East Catholic high school in 1965, later to study electrical engineering at the Indiana Institute of Technology. In 1975, Anthony opened Figaros, which specialized in “grinders”, the Connecticut version of a sub sandwich, along with light Italian fare. In 1981, Tony moved Figaros to S. Harrison St. near the Landings where Tony introduced a more “bistro” style menu reflecting his expanded tastes and flare. The outdoor patio during the Three Rivers festival was an event to be remembered by many. In 1991, Tony opened a catering kitchen known as Splendid Fare where he catered events both big and small for 30 years. Being a foodie himself, Tony had a refined interest in food and wine selections. He also appreciated the arts, from performing to visual arts, all types of music, and attending the Ann Arbor Art Fair every year.

Anthony is preceded in death by his father, Anthony.

He is survived by his children, Chris (Shilo) Pommer and Anthony Paul Ficaro; grandchildren, Brock, Jocelyn, Shia, and Greyson; mother, June Ficaro; siblings, Pat (Rod) Moffett, Brian Ficaro, Margaret (Marty) Forler, and Ed Ficaro; girlfriend Pat Branning, and many extended family members and friends.

A memorial gathering to honor Tony’s life will be held at his residence at 521 W. Wayne St on Saturday September 10 from 1pm to 5pm. Words of remembrance may be shared starting at 2pm..

Memorial contributions may be made in Anthony's name to the Guillain-Barré Syndrome Foundation or the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
