Obituary for Jane Cummings
Jane passed away at the age of 71 on October 28, 2021. She was born on March 31, 1950 in Ann Arbor, MI to Peter and Vivian Glushyn. Growing up in Ann Arbor, about a mile from the football stadium during the age of “Bo and Woody”, Jane became a lifelong U of M fan.
Jane’s happy smile and good nature won her many friends wherever she happened to go. She was a proud graduate of The Ann Arbor High School “Home of the Pioneers” - class of 1968, where it seemed everybody loved Jane! One of her classmates, in her remembrances, commented about her “very big heart” and how her smile would light up a room.
Jane and her future husband David both accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior as young adults, and while attending Packard Road Baptist Church, felt the Lord leading them to go into the ministry. After graduating from the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, KY, they began a 35-year career, serving churches in St. Joseph, MI, Forks, WA, and Cadillac, MI before retiring and moving back, to settle in Plymouth. David served as Senior Pastor in their churches, while Jane worked as a medical transcriptionist, as well as fulfilling her duties as a pastor’s wife.
As remembrances of Jane have been coming in, we are reminded of some of the reasons she was so dearly loved:
Her infectious smile; her slightly mischievous side when partying with her friends; her “Can Do” attitude when learning how to overcome the challenges of her physical limitations; her generosity, sharing many of her lunches with a classmate who had no money to buy food; her concern for the eternal destiny of her many friends, and as her health failed and she was often in severe pain, always remembering to say “Thank You” to those who were tending to her needs.
Jane was a very special person and we were blessed and proud to have her as part of our family. Jane was laid to rest beside David during a small family gathering. A memorial service is planned for next spring. We love you, Jane. Save us all a seat at the dinner table . . . and don’t eat all the colduni before we get there!
Jane is survived by her siblings, Pat Waldo, Peter (Sharon) Glushyn, and Diana Glushyn; her nieces and nephews, Debbie (Mike) Thompson, Cindy Waldo, Denise (Tim) Dailey, Curt (Jenn) Glushyn, Jeff (Sherry) Burns; and many great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, David Cummings.
Jane had a strong heart for Missions Ministries, both North American and International, and supported them throughout her adult life. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crossroads Community Baptist Church, 2580 Packard St. Ann Arbor, MI 48104, designated in memory of Jane Cummings. All contributions will be forwarded by the church to two of Jane’s favorite Missions Ministries.
