Obituary for Barbara Louise Smith (Torrey)
Barbara Louise Smith, age 78 of Ann Arbor, Michigan, formerly of Manhattan, Kansas, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 in Ann Arbor.
Barbara was born on November 19, 1942 to the late Earl and Edith (Fechter) Torrey in Wamego, Kansas. On March 13, 1995 Barbara married Quentin Smith and he survives her. Barbara is also survived by her daughter, Julia Eussen; two brothers, Delbert and Donald Torrey; as well as a sister, Teresa Torrey Gull.
Barb was a member of First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Ann Arbor. She worked as a professional librarian for many years at Kansas State University, Fort Riley Army base, and in Tecumseh, Michigan before retiring.
She had a great appreciation for nature and loved watching whales on the Oregon coast. In addition, she enjoyed papercrafts, including creating handmade greeting cards and small boxes which she gifted to friends and family throughout her life.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 10:00am at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation located at 4001 Ann Arbor-Saline Rd. Ann Arbor, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Save The Whales in Barbara's memory.
