Obituary for Carl K. Jackson Sr.

Carl K. Jackson Sr: A Life of Service and Devotion.

Born on May 4th, 1939, in Washington D.C., Carl K. Jackson Sr. was the eldest of six brothers. Throughout his life, Carl was dedicated to serving his country, his community, and his family.

His 21 years of military service included a deployment with the 609th US Army Unit in Haeundae, South Korea, where he met his beloved wife, Yun Chong Jackson. After completing his military career, Carl spent 23 years as a Supply Supervisor at the Ann Arbor VA hospital. Upon retirement, he continued to support his fellow veterans by serving as a VA Union steward for six years.

While stationed in South Korea, Carl displayed a passion for community service by helping to run and support an orphanage in Deokseong. Later, when he and Yun settled in Ann Arbor, he continued to serve his community as a dedicated Sunday school teacher at various Korean churches.

Together for 54 years, Carl and Yun raised two children, Carl K. Jackson Jr. and Nikki D. Jackson. Carl was a proud father-in-law to Kristina and Amanda, as well as a loving grandfather to Addison, Carter, Mason, Nathen, and Ava. As a brother-in-law, uncle, and "grandpa" to many, Carl was instrumental in helping his wife's siblings immigrate to America, establishing the Yi and Jackson foundation in the United States. His legacy will undoubtedly live on.

Carl Sr. cherished spending time with his family and enjoyed large gatherings, barbecues, fishing, and traveling. He and Yun were fortunate to explore the United States and many other countries together. Over the years, they lived with both of their sons, helping to raise their grandchildren. Carl's final years were joyfully spent in Ann Arbor, living with and helping to raise his grandchildren.

Carl K. Jackson Sr. will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his community, and for the love and laughter he brought to those around him.
