Obituary for Carol E. Burmeister
Carol E. Burmeister, age 86, of Saline, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28, 2023.
Carol was born in Manchester, Michigan, on November 14, 1936, the fourth child of Edward and Linda (Klager) Burmeister. She was raised on the family farm in Bridgewater, Michigan and enjoyed childhood years with her sisters, Alice, Maxine, Joyce, and Gail.
In the year following her graduation from Saline High School, Carol was able to save up enough funds to attend classes at Michigan State University. After two years, she transferred to Eastern Michigan University where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education. Following college, Carol taught in the Saline public school system as a kindergarten teacher. She retired after over 30 years of service and would often get stopped by former students while out and about in town.
During retirement, she decided to fulfill a lifelong dream of opening up a to-go dinner service in Saline which she lovingly called “I’ll Fix Dinner Tonight.” Carol spent six years making wonderful home cooked meals for her community.
Carol was the epitome of the perfect aunt and was fond of spending her free time enjoying her nieces and nephews. Time spent with her family made her the happiest.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Linda Burmeister; her siblings, Alice Burmeister, Maxine Burkhart; her brother-in-law’s, Russell Burkhart and David Hoeft.
Carol will be deeply missed by her sisters, Joyce Hoeft and Gail (James) Knight; her eight nieces and nephews and their spouses, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Nie Family Funeral Home, 3767 W. Liberty Road, Ann Arbor, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023 at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 910 Austin Drive, Saline, at 11:30 am. Family and friends are welcome to begin gathering at 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 910, Austin Drive, Saline, Michigan, 48176, where Carol was a longtime member.
