Obituary

Carole Ann Katz, 77, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on December 16, 2019. She was born on May 28, 1942 in Portsmouth, Ohio to F. Carl and Pauline Newman Daehler. Carole was a 1960 graduate of Portsmouth High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Michigan in 1964. Her beloved nursing career spanned over 25 years at the University of Michigan Health System (Michigan Medicine) beginning in clinical care and retiring as a highly respected nurse manager. She was a passionate fan of University of Michigan athletics and enjoyed performances by the School of Music, Theatre & Dance. Carole was an active long-time member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Ann Arbor and a frequent volunteer at Peace Neighborhood and the Delonis Center. Her enjoyment of life included her close friends, bridge club friends, lunch bunch friends, and above all her family. Carole was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and her love was overflowing and unconditional. She helped raise seven beautiful grandchildren whom she adored.

Carole is survived by her husband of 54 years, Larry Katz; sister, Connie Born, and husband, Jeff, of Bloomington, Indiana; brother, F. Carl Daehler Jr., and wife, Lynne, of Cary, North Carolina; daughter, Jill Schwartz, and husband, Steve, of Saline; daughter, Julie Brophy, and husband, Brian, of Saline; and grandchildren, Kaitlyn Schwartz, Carolyn Schwartz, Bryce Brophy, Brendan Brophy, Quinn Brophy, Collin Brophy, and Elsie Brophy. Carole was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Karlene Kulp.

The family wishes to thank her Michigan Medicine physicians, nurses, assistants, and other staff for their compassion and world-class care.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 3, 2020 at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 423 S. 4th Ave. in Ann Arbor, from 9:30 am until the time of the memorial service at 11 am. The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory of Carole to the University of Michigan School of Nursing, Michigan Medicine Hepatology Program, or Bethlehem United Church of Christ.
