Born May 14, 1924 in Ann Arbor to Afrodite and Peter Collins (Kyriakoulis). She died peacefully at Cottingham Retirement Home in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 8, 2023.
Connie’s schooling included Ann Arbor High School (graduated 1942) and an undergraduate degree from The University of Michigan (1947). In 1951, she married Xenophon John Mirageas of Boston. From 1954 to 1982 Connie, ‘Phoney’, and their four children made Ann Arbor their home. After her husband’s death in 1975, Connie eventually relocated to Phoenix, Arizona to be close to her sister, Elaine and brother-in-law, Sam Apostle. In 2004, she moved to Escondido, California to live with her youngest child, Deborah, and from 2015 she made Cincinnati her home to be close to daughter, Diane and son, Evans.
She is survived by four generations of family. Her sister, Elaine, and her four children: Evans (husband, Thomas Dreeze), Diane (husband, Randy Humbert), Peter, and Deborah. Her grandchildren are Mia Mirageas, Jennifer Mejia, Stephen Humbert (wife, Lauren) and Nicole Humbert. She was recently blessed with her first great-grandchild, Pierce Joseph Humbert. Nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews abound including: James Batsakis (wife, Ellen), Adam and Aaron Batsakis (wife, Amanda), Alex and Nicholas Batsakis (wife, Lindsay), Peter and Christopher Apostle, Stephen and Alicia Collins, and Jill Nicholas.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Fran and brother, George.
While living in Ann Arbor, Connie was an active member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Sorority AOΠ and the Ann Arbor Women’s City Club. Connie leaves behind a legacy of love from everyone she met. Her nephew Christopher said it best: “Aunt Connie’s guaranteed to have gotten an express ticket to heaven”. Visitation will be held at Nie Funeral Home, 3767 W. Liberty Road Sunday, March 12, 2023 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. with a Trisagion Service at 1:30 p.m. The Greek Orthodox funeral service will be conducted on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. by Father Nicolaos Kotsis at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church 3109 Scio Church Road, Ann Arbor. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make contributions to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.
