Cynthia Mitchell-Lee, Ed.D., age 80, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2020 at Atria Senior Living Facility of Ann Arbor. Cynthia was born on February 16, 1940 in Cardale, Pennsylvania to the late Murphy and Addie (Lee) Mitchell. Cynthia received her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) from Wayne State University. On October 10, 1994, she married Granville Lee and he survives her. They had a loving, caring marriage for twenty-five years. She is survived by her sister Janis Giles, and brothers Murphy Mitchell, Jr. and Melvin Alfred Mitchell: nieces Jennifer “Kay” (Sherwood) Crump, Lynne (Stephon) Harris, Elaine Robinson, Cicely Mitchell, and nephews David (Twanda) Ridley, and Marlon Mitchell: grandnieces Cristen Harris, Jillian Crump, and grandnephew Jared Harris. She is also survived by stepsons Christopher Lee (Michelle), Johnathan Lee (Tracey), stepdaughter Sharen Lee (Terry Brown) and Step-granddaughters Cassandra Lee and Alexandra Lee: and a host of cousins including Stratton Lee, Jr (Colette), Stratton Lee III, Tracey Smith, Kimberly Caldwell, and Michael Caldwell.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her brothers Julius Mitchell, Elmer Mitchell, Marvin Mitchell and Lloyd Keith Mitchell and sisters Betty Love Robinson, Mamie Lou Patterson and Mary Dean Ridley.
Cynthia enjoyed life, one being anything involving Childhood Learning and the Education of young people. She was an avid photographer, loved to golf, and in the mornings, walking on the track field at Martin Luther King, Jr. High School. She was a lifetime member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Tau Alpha Omega, Chapter, and served several ministries at First United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor. She loved travelling and two of her favorite trips were a church mission trip to Meru, Kenya and a photography class with her husband in Tucson, Arizona. Cynthia was a project coordinator for the Detroit Branch NAACP, Art and Essay Contest sponsored by the Detroit Public Schools.
