Daniel Davis McLaughlin was born in Detroit, Michigan on a beautiful fall day in 1973. He loved all things Detroit. “We did well with the Stevies (Wonder, Kemp, and Yzerman).”
Dan was a carpenter by trade in Ann Arbor and Washington D.C. When he was no longer able to do fine carpentry, he was proud to become an essential service worker during the pandemic. He was ecologically minded and supported green building and sustainable living.
Dan was a world traveler - rebuilding homes in San Marcos, Guatemala after hurricane Stan, climbing Cotopaxi in Ecuador, and visiting the Holy Land in Israel. Along the way he captured nature and culture through photography.
Dan’s past few years were an outpouring of creative projects beginning with the comic “Isabelle Adventures,” which parodied his many travels. He was an incredible curator of music, introducing family members to an eclectic range of bands & songwriters. His musical talent culminated in his own one-man band “Noise Fusion,” which combined his poetry with Native American instruments.
Dan is survived by his parents, Bill and Pat; sister, Lisa; brothers, Phil and Evan; brother-in-law, Dominick; niece, Aria; nephews, Orson and Holden; and his dear friends Paige, Sierra, and Colleen. He was beloved by all.
Funeral services will be held on November 6th at Nie Funeral Home, 3736 W. Liberty, Ann Arbor. Public viewing 3-5p.m. Service 5p.m. Reception 6:30p.m.
