Obituary for Daniel Kenneth Struble

A life-long resident of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Dan passed away on October 24, 2021, from complications of Lewy Body Dementia.

Dan was a graduate of Ann Arbor High School. After serving three years in the U.S. Navy (stationed primarily in White Sands, New Mexico), Dan completed a business degree at Eastern Michigan University.

Always interested in business and finance, Dan worked for a time as a stockbroker but then devoted the majority of his career as an insurance agent with the Automobile Club of Michigan, retiring from AAA after 30 years. He continued working for several more years with the Kleinschmidt Insurance Agency in Ann Arbor where they were pleased to be joined by a seasoned agent.

Dan was an active member of the Ann Arbor Ski Club, serving one year as its President and participated in winter ski trips out west with other club members over many years. An avid golfer, Dan became a charter member of Travis Pointe Country Club, where he enjoyed golfing with friends for the past 44 years, and in the mid-1980s TPCC is where he met his future wife, Sharon. For nearly 25 years, Dan took annual trips with a group of friends to legendary golf courses in Scotland, Ireland, and Casa del Campo, as well as to courses all over the United States. He was pleased to have shot four hole-in-ones. Over the decades, Dan also enjoyed getting together with old high school friends for monthly Friday-night poker games.

A most-special place for Dan was his cottage on Bois Blanc Island, Michigan. As a boy, he spent many summers at his uncle’s cottage on the island, and later helped his parents build their cottage on the island. In 1997, Dan and Sharon bought their own place there, looking out over the Straits of Mackinac, the Mackinac Bridge, and a clear view of Round Island, with Mackinac Island close behind that. Dan and Sharon spent many summers at Bois Blanc Island, with daily saunas, swimming, walking with their beloved golden retrievers Lucky and Bogey, and watching the sunsets. Dan loved nature, knew the names and sounds of Michigan birds, and could identify most of the wildflowers he found.

Dan is survived by wife, Sharon Stafford Struble; daughter, Suzanne Struble of Atlanta, GA; sister, Mary Struble (Kevin) Deery Charlotte, NC; and brother, Peter (Sally) Struble of Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Esther Struble; his brother, Michael Struble, and his sister, Ann (William) Birkle, all of Ann Arbor.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 20, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church, 120 South State Street, Ann Arbor.
