Obituary for David Dudley Casey

David Dudley Casey passed away on December 13, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.

David was born on June 25, 1936 in Pontiac, Michigan. His parents were Robert Dudley Casey and Viola (North) Casey.

David served in the United States Army and while enlisted met the love of his life, Kathleen L. Sweet, by becoming pen pals with the help of their siblings. The two were married on July 2, 1960, shortly after David was discharged from service. David was a proud Ann Arbor police officer, where he was able to bring home many great stories of the days he had in the community. Leaving the police force in 1968, David started his 30 year career with Ford Motor Company, while helping care for his family at home. He created many lasting friendships and briefly served on the UAW Union Board.

He was an active member of his churches, first at St. Paul Lutheran in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he and Kathleen were married, and then more recently at Our Savior Lutheran church in Chelsea, Michigan. His children attended St. Paul Lutheran school where he was a member of the school board.

David was also an outstanding fisherman. Whether it was at the pond behind the house or planned fishing trips, he could always be seen with a pole in hand. He also enjoyed hunting, bowling, traveling with his family (especially his wife) and hockey, both playing it (in his younger years) and watching it. Most importantly, no matter who you were, David could always crack a joke and make you smile. His outgoing charm, humorous wit, and countless stories will be remembered and missed dearly.

David is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Caroline LaPine, Roberta Jenkins, Dudley Casey, and Robert Casey; and granddaughter, Miranda Cottone.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen Casey; children, Colleen (Rick) Cooper, Michael (Denise) Casey, and Susan Casey; grandchildren, Jennifer (Don) Potter, Eric (Nikki) Cooper, Christie (Dennis) Cox, Craig (Crystal) Roe, David Ross, Jessica Cottone, and Cassandra Cottone; great grandchildren, Austin and Alyssa Dettling, Miles Roe, and Ryan and Abby Cooper; and extended family members including his nieces, and many friends.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Our Savior Lutheran Church on 1515 S Main St, Chelsea, MI 48118 at 11am with presentation from the Washtenaw County Honor Guard. A luncheon will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church or St. Jude (https://www.stjude.org/)
