Obituary for Douglas Elliott "Doug" King

Douglas Elliott King, 26, of Brighton, MI passed away on December 23, 2022 following respiratory complications due to Myhre Syndrome.

Born March 23, 1996, Douglas lived most of his life in Dexter, MI. He graduated from Dexter High School in 2015 and joined the WISD Young Adult Program until 2021. His involvement with the Young Adult Program allowed him to gain valuable work experience at many local businesses throughout Dexter including Busch’s, LaFontaine Chevrolet, ACE Hardware and Joe & Rosie’s. He was a well known and loved community member. Douglas was a familiar face at the Dexter United Methodist Church where he attended church, participated in youth group, SOS (Service over Self) mission trips and spent many hours assisting his dear friend and caregiver Betty Parsons, with custodial work.

“Doug E Fresh” as he was known to many, had a profound and unwavering love of 80s and Heavy Metal music. Flock of Seagulls, and Judas Priest were among his favorites. “I Ran” and “Breaking the Law” were frequently on repeat throughout the day. Douglas also enjoyed bowling, UM Sports and his cat, Franklin.

Douglas faced many health challenges in his life, including over 115 surgeries. He was heroic in his attitude and approach to his health care, living each day the best he could, typically giving a “thumbs up” to let you know how he was doing.

He is survived by his parents, Doug King & Stacie Buckler, siblings; Hannah, John and Toni King; grandparents: Le & Luana King and Brenda & Dennis Buckler, uncles: Darrin King and Brian (Rachel) Buckler, many cousins, extended family members and friends.
