Obituary for Ellen Genevieve Kenney
Ellen G. Kenney, a resident of Ann Arbor, was born on May 11, 1924 in Woodland, Michigan to Lawrence Hilbert and Stata Wolcott Hilbert. She died peacefully in Ann Arbor at age 96 on July 7, 2020.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles S. Kenney and sons, William ‘Sam’ and Scott. Ellen is survived by daughter, Barbara (William) Silvis and son, Peter (Lynn). She is also survived by grandchildren, Rebecca (Tim) Gilbert, William ‘Chip’ (Lauren) Silvis, Sarah (Aaron) Worley, Jane (Neil) Kenney-Hunt, and great-grandchildren, Kate, Abigail, Andrew, Thomas, Matthew, Julia, Samuel and Alexandra.
In retirement Ellen and Charles wintered in Florida until 1996 and spent many summers at Saddlebag Lake in Michigan. She was a member of Ann Arbor’s City Club, and she attended First Presbyterian Church in Ann Arbor. She was also a member of Woodland United Methodist Church.
Ellen’s family is making arrangements to celebrate her life, at a date to be determined, at her gravesite at Woodland Memorial Cemetery near her former summer home in Woodland, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Woodland United Methodist Church or First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor.
