Obituary for Ernesto Jose Zuniga

Ernesto Jose Zuniga was born in Jinotepe, Nicaragua in 1953 and died on April 4, 2020. He died in Ann Arbor, Michigan which had been home for 39 years after his family was compelled to leave Nicaragua as a result of the Sandinista revolution. He was the loving son of Francisco and Maria Elena Zuniga. He was happily married for 38 years to his wife and best friend Virginia.

He loved his children Veronica (Alan) and Miguel. His six grandchildren Joaquin, Corina, Kateri, Leo, Madeleine, and Cecilia captured his heart and they adored him. He was often seen wearing homemade superhero capes at their request, and playing games of all sorts resulting in frequent peals of laughter and much merriment. Ernesto was one of six children in a very close family who have all survived him: Francisco (Angelita), Laura (John), Carlos (Maria Gabriela), Maria Isabel (Francisco), and Nadine (John). He will be remembered for his gift for storytelling, his gourmet cooking, his sense of humor often resulting in him and others shaking with laughter, his deep affection for his family and friends but most importantly for his profound abiding faith in God, which motivated all his decisions. His primary goal was to get to heaven and to bring all those he loved with him. Although he was extremely proud of their accomplishments and gifts his greatest joy was that his children loved the Lord.

Family will gather for a private burial. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date at Christ the King Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church 4000 Ave Maria Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48105 or to the Marian Missionaries of Divine Mercy PO Box 1401, Stockbridge, MA 01262.
