Obituary for Evangelina V. Gatchalian

Our beloved Evangelina V. Gatchalian passed away peacefully in Ann Arbor at her home on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at the graceful age of 89. She was born in the Philippines in the town of Paniqui, Tarlac on August 9, 1930.
Evangelina grew up in the Philippines in a loving family. She and her family had survived occupation during World War II. She came here to the USA in 1969. Evangelina was a loving, caring & devoted Mother, Sister, Auntie, grandmother and great-grandmother. Evangelina loved going out to lunch every day with her sister and best friend Rose and were frequent regulars at their favorite restaurants. She loved going to church, movie musicals, reading, Elvis Presley, collecting trinkets, playing cards, and was a lover of animals. She worked faithfully at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital for 30 years.

She will lovingly be remembered by her children (Evangeline R. Gatchalian, Lullet Johnson, Pedro Gatchalian and Michael Gatchalian), sister (Rose Olegario), nephew (Francis Olegario, Gigi Olegario), nieces (Ruby Olegario) and grandchildren (Gabrielle Gatchalian, Tyler Baker, Travis Baker, Francesca Olegario, Dea Olegario, Jet Johnson, Isabella Gatchalian, Braeden Gatchalian, Niko Olegario and Danger Gatchalian).

A visitation will take place on Thursday, December 12, 2019 from 3 to 8 pm with a Rosary at 6:30 pm at Nie Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Rd., Ann Arbor, 48108. A funeral Mass will take place on Friday, December 13, 2019 at 11 am (Instate at 10:30 am) at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2250 E. Stadium Blvd., Ann Arbor, 48104. Entombment will take place at Washtenong Memorial Park, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
