Obituary for Evelina Gonzales Cuevas-Ojeda (Cuevas)

Our parents, ALEJANDRO “Alex” OJEDA, Jr. and EVELINA “Evelyn” CUEVAS-OJEDA, peacefully joined our Creator on March 23, 2020. This year 2020 would’ve been their 57th wedding anniversary. As In life, they went home together holding hands, at each other’s side. Dad, always being the gentleman that he was to Mom, went to Heaven a little earlier at 1:40am after which Mom followed at 3:39am. Dad and Mom so loved God, that they started their day everyday with the Celebration of the Eucharist, regardless of where they were. Even in their final breath, they sought His Apostolic Blessing. As Jesus said, “This illness is not to end in death, but is for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.” (John 11: 4-6). And it was indeed His Glory in that room, with Daddy, Mommy, Allyn, and their five (5 sons) on the phone praying and singing Anima Christi. Thank you God, for such an anointed and grace-filled time with You!!!

Our Dad was a Civil Engineer by profession, he worked tirelessly to provide for Mommy and us six (6) children till the age of 78 years old. Daddy earned three (3) Master’s Degrees in Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering and in Public Health. He was a proud graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, University of Philippines, and Mapua Institute of Technology. In his active years of working in the Philippines, he held executive positions with San Miguel Corporation, Philippine National Construction Corporation (formerly CDCP), and Manila Water Sewerage Systems (MWSS). He was so passionate about education, that he taught at Mapua Institute of Technology and National University, after a full day’s work, plus several consulting works on the side. When they migrated to the U.S., Dad didn’t stop working and learning, took up minor courses on the side to further sharpen his skills and update his knowledge of engineering and computers. He took on simple job opportunities until he finally ended up working in the Engineering Department of Dearborn, Michigan for more than 10 years.

Our Mom was a Physician by profession, she specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology. In true self-sacrificial form, Mommy committed herself fully to the care and nurture of their growing family. She was never idle, taking care of multiple financial investments which helped the family through the years, and even in their retirement. Mom was a very good “treasurer”, managing the finances well, and always providing more than enough for the family. She was very particular about needs and wants, something that we learned from, and became our foundation in our own lives. She took care of all our everyday needs and was always hands-on with everything. She had a passion for cooking, and that is something we will really miss, home-cooked food that only Mom can make for us, because each meal was full of love and care. That worked so well for the family, Mom cooked well, while the rest ate well! Mommy never retired from being who she was, someone who was always looking after her children, even when we were already adults and had families of our own. Mom never ceased praying and interceding for all of us, just like Daddy.

God has always been the center of our parent’s lives, and their dreams only revolved around the family. They were a perfect complement to each other, God’s Most Perfect Couple, in our loving eyes.

Alex and Evelyn are survived by their children, Alvyn, Allyn, John, Noel, Alexis and Deene with their respective spouses, 11 grandchildren, and 1 great grandson. We thank God for granting them a full life, and a great journey together, giving us everything they can, and making sure that we, too, were at peace, until their last breath.

We will miss you Mom and Dad. Thank you for everything, you will never be forgotten, and forever loved. Till we see you again.

Please pray for the repose of their souls.

Grant unto them eternal rest, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them.

May they rest in peace. Amen

Thank you all for your love and prayers, accept our prayers for God’s love and protection for each of you and your loved ones.
