Obituary for George P. Petropoulos

Petropoulos, George P. of Ann Arbor, was born on May 22, 1936 and passed away on July 27, 2019. George was born in Valtesiniko, Arcadia, Greece to Peter G. and Georgia (Papanikolaou) Petropoulos and was the youngest of six children (Vasiliki, Maria, Anastasia, Frank, and Konstantinos). He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dena (Stavropoulos); children, Peter (Pamela), Georgia (Perry), and Toula; and five grandsons, George, Niko, Lee, Panayiotis, and George.

George traveled by ship to America on the “Marine Carp” to Ellis Island, New York in 1948 as an American Citizen at twelve years of age. Met by his three siblings, they settled in Herkimer, New York for a short time before moving to Albany, New York. George came to live the American Dream, selling popcorn at New York Jet’s football games and working as a soda jerk. As a family, they moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan where George would settle to spend his life and raise his family.

Continuing to embrace and live the American Dream, George purchased Delta Lunch in 1955 and Omega Pizza in 1957. Soon after, in 1960 George purchased Cottage Inn Restaurant. He was a leader and lover of the town of Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan. George was a faithful servant to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and a devoted member of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He retired in the year 2000 where he spent quality years with his beloved family and great friends.

Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church (Iconography Fund); 3109 Scio Church Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48103.
