Obituary for Glenn Curtis Morrison

Glenn Curtis Morrison, age 87, died February 8, 2021. He was born on March 24, 1933 in New Haven, Connecticut, the only child of George and Mildred (Curtis) Morrison. His early life was spent in Milford, Connecticut. Glenn spent summers at his grandmother Curtis’ home in Harrington, Maine where he learned to fish for lobster with his uncle, to spear flounder, and to rake blueberries for the local cannery. He graduated from Brown University in 1954 with his BS in chemistry and received his Ph.D from the University of Rochester in 1958.

While at Rochester, he met and married Anne (Byrnes) Morrison, who sat next to him in Advanced Organic Chemistry lecture. He spent most of his professional life doing pharmaceutical research with Warner Lambert Co. in Morris Plains, New Jersey, transferring to Ann Arbor at the time of the merger with Parke-Davis. He had a strong competitive spirit, which he exercised at various times by participating in basketball, golf, duplicate bridge, bowling, and hearts. In recent years, he developed a deep interest in gardening, the results of which can be seen throughout his yard. He was intrigued by the stock market, and after his retirement, spent much time and effort in this area.

Most important to him was his family. He is survived by his wife, Anne; their children, Robert, John (Barbara Archer), Suzanne (Trey Short), and Paul (Julie); their grandchildren, Sheila, Brooke, Kylee, Justin, Katy, Grant, Alysha, Thomas, and Michael; their great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Addison, Tenley, Hannah, Devin, Virginia, Jack, Benji, and William. Cremation has taken place; a celebration of his life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Matthaei Botanical Gardens, in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
