Obituary for Jack R. Pelton

Mr. Jack R. Pelton, age 85, passed away in Ann Arbor, Michigan on April 29, 2022, at his residence at Brookhaven Manor.

Jack was born and raised in Ann Arbor, and graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1954. The following year, he married his wife of over 61 years, Edith “Edie” Pelton. He soon entered the United States Navy as a Naval Intelligence Officer during the Korean War. Being discharged from the service, Jack continued his education at Eastern Michigan University and then obtained a bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Wisconsin. His banking career led him to the National Bank & Trust of Ann Arbor, then later retired from the National Bank of Detroit, which is now Chase Bank, as a senior vice president.

Before Edie’s passing in 2017, they spent their years traveling, hosting parties, and spending time with their family and friends.

Jack lived and loved vibrantly and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a proud Husband, Father, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa. He was happiest surrounded by family at their many birthday parties, game nights, and BBQ’s. He spent years with his friends snowmobiling and tailgating for Michigan Football games. He was a Monarch in the Masons and made life-long friends at the Zal Gaz Grotto Club in Ann Arbor.

Jack was a past Treasurer of Zion Lutheran Church, an avid golfer, hunter, and longtime member of the M Club.

He felt lucky to spend the last few years of his life with his companion, Marilyn. They enjoyed many trips together with Carol’s VIP Adventures. After moving to Brookhaven, he founded “club 333” where he would spend time laughing and having drinks with his new friends.

Jack is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edie; and parents, Jack and Margaret. We know they are reunited and looking over us all.

He will be missed and remembered by those who survive him: brothers, Dale (Karen) and George; children, Cheri (Todd) Gatzke of Ypsilanti Twp., Jack “J.D.” Pelton of Saline, and Greg Pelton of Saline; grandchildren, Angela (Ryan) LaPine, Kayla (Paul) Williams, Cole Pelton, and Connor Pelton; great grandchildren, Alyia Gatzke, P.J. Williams, and Kai Alberta Williams.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2022 from 4-8pm, including a Masonic Ceremony at 7:30pm at Nie Family Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48108. Wednesday, May 4, 2022, the funeral service will begin at 11am at Zion Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Liberty St., Ann Arbor, MI 48103. Burial will follow at Washtenong Memorial Park, Ann Arbor, MI with Military Honors at 1pm.
