Obituary for James Joseph Farrell

James J. Farrell of Ann Arbor, Michigan passed away peacefully on Sunday the 15th of November.

Born in 1938, in Detroit, Michigan to Joseph and Phyllis (Webber) Farrell, James attended St. Francis de Sales High School in Detroit before serving his country in the Navy aboard the USS Benner.

A long-time resident of Brighton, James was co-founder and co-publisher of The Engravers Journal, the world’s foremost publication for the engraving industry. James loved golf, telling stories from his time as a police officer, traveling to USS Benner reunions across the country, and spending time with family at his home in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

He was especially proud of his loving children, Shannon (Derek) Novara and Patrick Farrell and his grandchildren, Genevieve and Sean Novara. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: JoAnn Harreld, Joseph Jr. (Mary Ann), Norah Morrell, Lawrence (Andrea), Elizabeth Olli, Janice (David) Walsh, and Maureen (Terry) Turel.

He was preceded in death by his former wife of 44 years, Rosemary Farrell; his parents; his sister, Janet Marie; his brother, Michael; and his brothers-in-law, John Harreld and Russell Morrell.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2020 from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm at Nie Family Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48108. All guests must wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, November 20, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2250 E. Stadium Blvd, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104. Burial to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery of Ann Arbor. All guests must wear a mask and practice social distancing.
