Obituary for James Edward Rushton

James, age 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 and was born on March 3, 1940 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Ruth and Clifford Rushton.

He began his career with the City of Ann Arbor in 1960 and retired as the Ann Arbor City Assessor in 1996. Following his career with the City of Ann Arbor, he was the Assessor for Pittsfield Township until 2010. Jim was an instructor for the Michigan Assessors Association where he taught Income and Statistics and served on the Legislative and Subsidized Housing Committees. Jim also served on the Board of Directors for the Southeast Michigan Assessors Association and served as President of the Washtenaw County Assessors Association.

Jim enjoyed many outdoor activities including hunting, fishing and golf. Jim especially enjoyed the time spent up north this summer. There were many visits with family and friends. He enjoyed four wheeler rides, campfires, some wine tasting, the beginnings of beautiful fall color and of course lots of euchre.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Linda; his children, James S. (Michelle), Robert M., and their mother, Nancy; Joel Hahn, and Kerry (Bruce) Meggison; his grandchildren, Bret (Stephanie), Crystal (Gordon), Brandin (Tanya), Ricky, Ryder, Abigail, and Sadie; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his sister-in-law, Karen Saunders.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Carol.

Private services will take place. Friends and family are welcome to join us for interment on Monday, November 9, 2020 at 1pm at Bethlehem Cemetery; Jackson Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48103. Face masks will be required.
