Obituary

Obituary for Jewel Dolores Johnson

For I am ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4:6-7

THERE IS A TIME TO BE BORN
Jewel Dolores Johnson was born in Union City, Tennessee on August 19, 1942. She was the first child born to Jewell and Johnnye Johnson. Teacie, as she was also affectionately known, moved from Tennessee to Ann Arbor, Michigan in the early 1950's.

A TIME TO BE EDUCATED
Jewel received her middle school education at Jones School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She graduated from Ann Arbor High in 1961. She excelled in spelling winning many competitions. She was also successful in sports.

A TIME TO WORK
Jewel dedicated 27 years as a custodian to Ann Arbor Public Schools. She was a diligent worker who took pride in her profession, ensuring children learned in a clean and healthy environment. She often worked long hours and weekends to provide for her family. In addition, she volunteered as a candy striper at University of Michigan Hospital.

A TIME TO LOVE
Teacie loved her family and friends. In her pastime, she loved to watch sports particularly Michigan Football. She also enjoyed movies and cooking, especially barbecuing in the summer. Collecting memorabilia and water globes were a hobby. After challenging health confined her to the house, it was HSN and QVC that brought her much joy. She watched them like movies and we were visited with new packages weekly.

Becoming a senior did not limit her ability or desire to make new friends.
She was loved by her church family, caregivers, her dialysis technicians, bus drivers and so many others. She cherished them all and they all had a special place in her heart. A simple interaction could lead to a friendship and her laughter could light up a room.

A TIME TO BELIEVE
Jewel loved the Lord. She expressed that her greatest gift and accomplishment were her daughters, Kelly and Rhonda. She attributed their success solely to the Lord. She attended the Church of Christ in Union City, Tennessee as a child. In her adult years, she attended the Church of Christ in Ann Arbor, Michigan and The Bible Church in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Her favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalms, so she believed that God would meet her as she walked through the valley of the shadow of death.

A TIME TO DIE
Jewel moved to her eternal home in glory on November 16, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jewell and Johnnye Johnson; her maternal grandmother, Alice Prience; and her brother, Marine Cpl. William H. Johnson. She will be missed by her daughters, Kelly (Melvin) Rusher and Rhonda Johnson; her brother, Pete (Pamela) Johnson; granddaughters, Alycia Harris, Marla Rusher, Terica (Moses) Robinson and Josephina Brooks; great-granddaughter, Nova T. Johnson; nephews, Derek (Mandy) Johnson, Marques (Brendea) Johnson; nieces, Deanna and Danielle Johnson. A host of close cousins and extended family. In addition, special friends, Raymond Patterson, Elaine Kelley and Candace Pace, and her four-legged companion, Josiah.

Jodi Good

We are truly heartbroken at the loss of our Miss Jewel. She will always be remembered for her smile and her laugh. She had a way of lighting up the clinic when she came in! We are praying for you and know heaven has gained an angel.
