Obituary for Joan Ellen Brandt

Joan, age 87, passed away on May 16, 2021 and was born on July 11, 1933 in Saginaw, MI to Peter and Florence Simon.

Her work experience was primarily office positions including the sheriff’s department. Joan was a member of numerous church ministries and she worked with Hmong kids’ ministry in Milwaukee, WI. Some of her volunteer work included Ronald McDonald House, Girl Scouts, and League of Women Voters.

She enjoyed playing cards, eating ice cream, watching nature, and blowing bubbles with her grandkids. Joan also loved being a dance teacher, traveling, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers.

Joan is survived by her children, Debbie (Robert) Kasper, Dean (Teresa) Brandt, Dawn (Karl) Weber, and David (Rachael) Brandt; her grandchildren, Rebekah Kasper, Jacob (Holly) Kasper, Gabe (Melissa) Kasper, Kristine Weber, Anna (Josh) Gremminger, Rick Weber, Emma Weber, Madi Brandt, and Sophia Brandt; her great grandchildren, Claire, Titus, Jude, Lila, Evan, Levi, Grant, Abby Jo, and Jonah; her brother, Peter (Carol) Simon; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Daniel A. Brandt; her granddaughters, Elizabeth Kasper and Jennifer Weber; and her siblings, Catherine Lewis, Elmer Simon, Edna Norris, Eleanor Cahoon.

A funeral service will be held Friday, May 21, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation beforehand at 10:00 a.m. at the University Lutheran Chapel; 1511 Washtenaw Ave, Ann Arbor, MI 48104. Face masks are recommended. A private burial will take place at a later date at Pilgrim Home Cemetery; Arcadia, MI.

Memorial contributions may be made in Joan’s honor to the University Lutheran Chapel or to Open Arms Lutheran Church; 7865 Belleville Rd, Belleville, MI 48111.

A special thanks to the staff at St. Joe’s Sanctuary Village for taking such great care of Joan and making her last three years wonderful.
