Obituary for John Joseph Kubik

John Joseph Kubik, 81, of Westland, Michigan passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.

John was born on October 18, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan. He grew up and spent the end of his life in the metro Detroit area, but he lived in and raised his children in the thumb area - Deckerville and Sandusky. He worked as a dental lab technician and had his own dental lab for many years.

John may have appeared rough around the edges and perhaps even grumpy sometimes! But if you really knew him, you knew he was kind and generous. He would give you the shirt off his back and was always willing to help anyone he could. John was always a jokester and loved making people laugh. He enjoyed playing cards and was super competitive. John was an outdoor enthusiast as he loved to hunt and fish. He loved bingo until the very end, and was very lucky at it - almost always winning. John loved to eat! He loved almost any kind of food, but he was especially fond of chocolate cake with buttercream frosting.

John’s grandchildren were his biggest source of pride. He could often be heard bragging about all of their accomplishments and showing pictures to whomever he could. He loved to babysit them when they were younger and was always rambunctious and goofy with them. John also loved watching his grandchildren play sports, seen often in the bleachers beaming with pride!

John was his happiest when he was spending time with his four children who survive him, Rita (Paul) Mitchell of Otsego, Michigan, John Kubik of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Christopher (Scott Pauw) Kubik of Hanover, New Hampshire, and Rosalie (David) Behen of Saline, Michigan. He leaves behind 11 grandchildren, Ryan (Amanda) Mitchell, Elizabeth (Chad) Powell, Adam (Carly) Mitchell, Emily Kubik, Isabel Behen, Nathan Kubik-Pauw, Joshua Behen, Jacob Kubik-Pauw, Sophia Kubik, Olivia Behen, and John Kubik; and seven great-grandchildren, Claire Mitchell, Vivienne Mitchell, Olivia Powell, Nora Mitchell, Marlowe Mitchell, Owen Kubik, and Abby Powell. Additionally, he is survived by siblings, Theresa Gladych, Phyllis Youngs, Joseph (Maxine) Kubik, Jo Anne (John) Berry, and Patricia (Larry) Meade. John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Genevieve (Mardeusz) Kubik; siblings, Rose Marie Titcombe, Bernard Kubik, Daniel Kubik and brother-in-law, Norm Gladych.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering will be held on July 6, 2023 at Nie Funeral Home – Liberty Road Chapel, 3767 W. Liberty Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan from 10:00 am -11:00 am. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 am.
