Obituary for John Garrey Snedeker
John (Jack) Garrey Snedeker 1/9/1930 - 1/11/2022
John (Jack) G. Snedeker of Dixboro, MI, claimed his eternal victory as he peacefully passed into the arms of his Savior in full confidence of the resurrection at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI, on January 11, 2022. He was dearly loved by his five children, Steven, Karen (Gregory) Bone, Robin (James) Zynda, Kathryn (Haldon Ferris), and Merri Lee (Charles) Day; his grandchildren, Melissa (Greg) Goings, Sarah Bone, Ryan Bone, Joseph (Kathy) Zynda, Aaron Zynda, Micayla Zynda, and John “Jack” Day; his great-grandchildren, Ashley, Hailey, and Miranda. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Sue (Richard) Trimble; and several beloved nephews and nieces. John was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Helen L.; his grandson, Matthew John Crane; his biological mother, Myrtle Garrey Snedeker; his treasured foster parents, Clinton and Leola Leslie; and foster siblings, Clinton N. Leslie, Richard D. Leslie, and Dorothy Reiff.
John was born in Mt. Clemens, MI, on January 9, 1930, to Myrtle Garrey Snedeker. As an infant, he became the foster son of Clinton and Leola Leslie of Dixboro, MI, where he felt grateful and blessed to be in the care of such a wonderful Christian family. John served in the United States Air Force for four and a half years before and during the Korean War. Upon returning from the service, John attended Cleary Business College, where he met his beautiful wife, Helen, of 67 years. John went on to work in Sales and Marketing at the Detroit Edison for 36 years.
John (Jack) was a lifetime member of Dixboro United Methodist Church, a 25-year member of the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor, and a member of the American Legion Post # 282. John spent many years as a Cub Scout/Boy Scout Master for Troop 30 and coaching little league baseball in Dixboro. Jack’s passions in life were his love for his family and community, his immense pride in his grandchildren, and his devotion to University of Michigan sports but especially U of M football. He enjoyed many Saturdays as stadium security, taking no stipend because of his commitment to the team. John will be remembered for his great sense of humor and quick wit. He was a generous father, an entertaining storyteller, and loved by all who knew him.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, April 8th, 11:00 am, at the Dixboro United Methodist Church, 5221 Church Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48105. There will be a Memorial Gathering for one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made in John’s honor to The Dixboro United Methodist Church, Huron Valley Humane Society, or an organization of your choice.
