Katharine M. Schmidt, age 99, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away on January 3, 2020 at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born on September 18, 1920 in Stockbridge, Michigan, the daughter of Oscar and Stascia (Schwartz) Schmidt. Katie worked for K-Mart for 47 years and retired from the Maple Road location in August of 1987.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she served as a Circle Leader and taught Sunday school. Katie enjoyed crocheting and cross-stitch often giving them away as gifts. She was an avid gardener and loved to be outside among the flowers. Her plant room was filled with over 40 African violets as well as other house plants. She was also a maze and blue football fan.

Katharine is survived by many cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Stascia, and her sister, Marie.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Nie Family Funeral Home, 3767 W. Liberty Road, Ann Arbor, from 4-8 pm. Funeral service will take place on Friday, January 10, 2020, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Liberty Street, Ann Arbor, at 11 am. Friends and family are welcome to gather at 10 am. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery of Ann Arbor.
