Obituary for Kathryn "Kay" Bonnell

Kathryn “Kay” Bonnell, age 80, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2021.

Kay was born in December 1941 to parents James and Josephine in Indianola, Pennsylvania. Kay’s family relocated to Norfolk, Virginia and Buffalo, New York before settling in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She attended St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic School of Ann Arbor. Following graduation, Kay enrolled at Eastern Michigan University and completed both a bachelor’s and master’s degree with a focus on education. Kay taught at Perry Preschool and George Elementary School in Ypsilanti, Michigan until her retirement.

In 1968, Kay married Charles “Charley” Bonnell in Tiffin, Ohio, whom she met in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The two settled in Ann Arbor and welcomed two sons, David and Michael. Kay was a wonderful wife and mother always looking to care for her family and others.

Kay will be deeply missed by her husband, Charles Bonnell; her sons, David (Amber) Bonnell and Michael Bonnell; and her grandson, Dawson Bonnell. She will also be missed by her nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was loved by many.

Memorial contributions can be made in Kay’s name to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

A special thank you to the doctors and medical professionals of the Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, whose good works gave many years of extra life.

Private cremation services have taken place. A Memorial Service will be planned at a later time in Tiffin, Ohio.
