Keith Erick Preston, age 47, lost his life in a car accident on May 3, 2020 while driving home from his family cottage in Gladwin, Michigan.
Keith was a beloved husband to Jennifer Preston (Dean) and a devoted father to Kevin and Alexander. Loving son to Andrew and Valerie Adamkiewicz and son-in-law to James and Cynthia Dean. Cherished brother to Robert (Amie), and brother-in-law to Joy (Jack), Beckie (Jason) and Renee (Nathan). He was the "fun Uncle" to many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased in death by his father, Richard Preston and his twin brother, Kevin.
Keith always strived to be a good son, husband, father, friend and lawyer.
Keith grew up in Warren and graduated high school from Warren Woods Tower. He earned degrees from the University of Michigan (undergraduate), Wayne State University (MBA) and the University of Detroit (Juris Doctorate). During his studies at U of M he met his wife Jenny and they were married in 1994. After a couple of years, they “temporarily” moved to California where they enjoyed hiking and making new life long friends. Eventually they moved back to Michigan with their two boys to be closer to family and settled in Saline. On May 24, they would have celebrated their 24th year of marriage.
Keith had limitless energy which he channeled into his sons. He took pride in coaching Alex’s soccer and flag football teams. He shared Kevin’s interest in technology, and they spent many enjoyable hours “gaming” together. Keith enjoyed working on school work with the boys, cooking, and projects around the house. These were the moments where he was happiest.
The cottage provided a haven from the hustle of life where many fond memories were forged with family and friends through long walks, smores by the campfire, water sports, playing games, or just relaxing.
Keith never turned down an opportunity to help someone and would drop everything at a moment’s notice if someone needed him. When a friend asked if he could perform her marriage ceremony he went online and got certified as a minister in order to preside at her wedding. He provided legal advice to friends and family. He was handy and many benefited from his skills. He was also very involved in his parish, St. Andrew the Apostle, teaching, learning and growing in his faith.
Keith was a founding partner of Huron Valley Law Associates. Prior to founding Huron Valley Law Associates, Keith worked as a general counsel to several small businesses and as a tax & business consultant in public accounting. Since 2011, Keith also worked with the Washtenaw County Public Defender’s office, appearing in a variety of cases.
Keith will always be remembered for his love of life, big heart, and having a smile that was contagious. He always had an optimistic attitude and was always willing to help anyone in need. No words can properly convey how many lives Keith touched nor how much he will be missed.
Private family viewing will be held at Nie Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, June 12, 2020, 11 am at St. St. Andrew The Apostle Catholic Church, 910 Austin Drive, Saline, Michigan. Friends and family are welcome to gather at 10 am.
