Obituary for Loretta Jean Seeger (Kempfert)

Loretta Jean Seeger, age 86, passed away on January 16, 2023, with family at her side. She was born on September 4, 1936, in Ann Arbor to Vernon and Madeline (Schmid) Kempfert.

Loretta grew up on the north side and graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1954. She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, which is where she met her future husband, Albert (Al). They were wed on May 12, 1956, built their home in Lakewood Subdivision in 1958, and soon after added two daughters to their family.

Loretta enjoyed her jobs at Michigan Bell and the Washtenaw County Treasurer, but her favorite career was staying home to raise her “girls.” She and Al traveled to England, Germany, the Caribbean and all over the U.S., but she especially looked forward to their annual winter trips to Florida. Loretta loved playing golf, bridge, reading, and spending as much time as she could with her grandson Michael. She will always be remembered for her frequent and contagious laughter, and sweet disposition.

Surviving are her daughters Lisa Phillips (Joe Filipiak), Terri (Ken) Thompson, grandson Michael Phillips (Ted Scott), step-grandsons Ben (Cassie) Thompson and Drew (Stephanie) Thompson, brothers Vernon Kempfert and Walter Kempfert, five step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, husband Al, twin sister Lois Soper, niece Vicki Soper, and special sister-in-law Nona Kempfert.

The family would like to thank Trinity Hospice, especially Ben, and the entire staff of The Meadows at Silver Maples for taking exceptional care of Loretta.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Hospice (https://donate.trinityhealthathome.org/), Silver Maples of Chelsea (https://silvermaples.org/contact-us/donate/), or a charity of your choice.

The family will receive visitors on Saturday, January 28, from 10-11 AM at Nie Family Funeral Home, 3767 W. Liberty, Ann Arbor. A memorial service will follow at 11 AM.
