Obituary for Margaret Beth Maxwell

Margaret Beth Maxwell passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at the age of 63.

Margaret "Meg" Maxwell was born on May 26, 1959 in Ann Arbor to Stewart and Betty Maxwell. Meg graduated from Huron High School in 1977 and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science and a Master's in Child Psychology from Eastern Michigan University. She became an advocate for at-risk youth at the Cope O'Brien Center, where she worked for many years.

In 1994, Meg married Andrew "Andy" Knock at her childhood church Ann Arbor Christian Reformed Church. Together they had three children; Sarah, Maxwell, and Benjamin. Meg had a joy and a love for her children that could never be matched, and even after she and Andy divorced, she was an incredibly dedicated and devoted single mother.

Meg took the opportunity to travel as often as possible with her children when they were older; she planned multiple trips to Disney World, the Keys, multiple cruises, a road trip as far west as Utah, and even trips to Europe. In fact, as a teenager Meg traveled to visit cousins in Scotland and vowed to maintain a close bond with her family overseas. One of her greatest joys was showing her children Scotland, where her grandparents had immigrated from to start a new life in America.

Meg's later joy in life was her granddaughter Claire. She enjoyed spending as much time as possible being "Nana" and taking Claire to the pool, to ballet classes, and even on short trips. She could never say no to her only grandchild.

An avid animal lover her entire life, Meg never went without a pet once she grew up. From gerbils in childhood to cats in college to a wolf hybrid to her sons' tortoises to three Border Collies, Meg joked about owning her own zoo and loved every minute of it. Dogs in particular were her passion and she enjoyed going to the dog show with her Border Collies Lad, Scotch, and Blue.

Meg was a devout Christian and through her brief battle with cancer she never stopped maintaining her faith. She knew that Jesus had a better plan for her in the end and prayed fervently for her own "shack" in heaven, but with the love and laughter she inspired her family and friends know that she is living in a mansion filled with her loved ones and beloved pets who passed before her.

She was preceded in death by her father Stewart.

Meg is survived by her mother Betty; her three children, Sarah, Max, and Ben; her granddaughter Claire; her brother; her sister; and several nieces, nephews, and dear cousins.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, August 26 at Nie Funeral Home on Carpenter Road.
