Obituary for Marianne (Szott) Wieczorek

Marianne F. Wieczorek, age 76, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 18, 2022.

Marianne was born on April 1, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan to parents Stanley and Lucille (Hojnowski) Szott and enjoyed a playful childhood with her siblings, Tim and Michael. After graduating from St. Andrews High School, Marianne earned a bachelor's degree from Madonna College in Livonia, Michigan with a focus in education.

While at Madonna, Marianne met Robert “Bob” Wieczorek through friends and began dating. The couple married on March 28, 1969 at the Felician Sisters Motherhouse in Livonia. Together they settled in Plymouth and welcomed their first child, Amy, in 1971, and their second child, Emily, in 1978. Her girls brought her endless amounts of joy.

She obtained a position at Plymouth-Canton Community Schools where she would have the honor of teaching young minds for 32 years. In the late 70s, Marianne went back to school to obtain a masters degree from Oakland University to assist her in educational development.

In 2001, Marianne retired from teaching to take on a different type of caregiving role. She began looking after her father, Stanley, as well as her aunt so the last years of their lives were filled with love, support, and the tender care from someone they loved.

During any spare time, Marianne could be found with a good book. She enjoyed the chase of mysteries, suspense, and thrillers. Jazz music was constant throughout her day as she often asked her Alexa to play various jazz tunes. She was a huge University of Michigan football fan and spent more than 20 years attending games and tailgating with a group of friends. Each year they looked forward to getting a special shout out for their chili on the radio!

Marianne was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wieczorek; her parents, Stanley and Lucille Szott; her infant brother, Stanley Szott Jr., and her younger brother, Tim Szott.

She will be deeply missed by her two daughters, Amy (Clint) Soldan and Emily (Greg) Wank; her three grandchildren, Calvin Soldan, Celine Soldan, and Elizabeth Wank; her brother, Michael (Martha) Szott; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, November 28, 2022 at 10:30 am at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 910 Austin Drive, Saline, Michigan. Friends and family are welcome to gather at 9:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Marianne’s name to the American Cancer Society, a cause near to her heart after the death of her husband, Bob.

When you see a ladybug zipping around a white daisy in the spring and summer months, take a moment to smile and know that Marianne is always with you.
