Obituary for Maribeth Hanna

Maribeth Hanna went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 4, 2023. Known as Betsy to many, she died at the age of 77 in hospice care at Promedica Nursing and Rehabilitation in Ann Arbor. Cremation has taken place.

Maribeth “Betsy” Hanna was born on April 25th, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan and raised in Milford, Michigan where she spent 10 wonderful years with her family until graduating from Milford High School in 1963. She then attended Alma College for two years before moving to Kentucky. She returned to Michigan and settled in Ann Arbor where the rest of her family then lived.

She married Joel Alan Mowrey on November 29, 1980. They had one son, Leif, who brought much delight to her life. Betsy and Joel divorced in 1997.

Maribeth worked for many places as a clerical assistant including CPHA (Commission on Professional and Hospital Activities), Jobo Phototechnic, Pittsfield Township and Hanna Satellite.

Betsy had many friends - wherever she lived, people were drawn to her. She especially enjoyed her friendships from her high school days in Milford, MI, the numerous churches she attended and from Cranbrook Towers where she lived for 13 years.

A devout Christian woman, Betsy was part of many Church communities. She was a parishioner at Divine Shepherd Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor, St. Michael Lutheran Church in Wayne, and St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor. Many would know the sound of her voice as she raised it to praise her Lord Jesus Christ.

Perhaps Betsy’s greatest gift to both family and friends was the many years of caring for, babysitting and singing to her many nieces and nephews. She was utterly devoted to all the children in her life. Many knew her as Aunt Betz, whether or not they were related by blood. She loved them all very dearly.

She is survived by her son, Leif Eliot Mowrey, and her siblings, Kathleen “Kitty” Robertson, John “Jack” (Darcy) Ingram Hanna II and Harvey (Sue) Hanna II along with many nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss her dearly. Maribeth is preceded in death by her father, Carl Finch Hanna; her mother, Mary Ellis Hanna Busch née Hottel; and her former husband, Joel Alan Mowrey.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 10, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church, 2065 S. Wagner Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48103. The family will begin receiving visitors at 10:00 a.m. Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life.
