Obituary for Marion Louise Spencer

Marion Louise Spencer, loving and devoted spirit to all whose lives she touched, passed away on April 18, 2021 in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Marion was born on April 7, 1941 to parents Donald and Helen Diehl in Teaneck, New Jersey. Her family moved to Pennsylvania, August 1951, where she also graduated from Central Columbia in 1959. Marion graduated from Hartwick College, located in New York in 1963, and later received her Master’s degree from Fordham University in 1966. That same year, she married Donald Spencer. Marion shortly after established life in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1967, where she was also fortunate to find employment with the city of Ann Arbor until 1972. She continued her career in the U.S. Postal Service, met and remarried Johnny Goree. She retired in 2008.

In her free time, Marion enjoyed gardening, exploring Cobblestone Farm, traveling and visiting relatives in California, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, sharing good reads with a local neighbourhood book club, and working on needle point projects.

Marion is preceded in death by her parents; brother, William; and sister, Connie.

She is survived and will always be remembered by her twin brother, Richard (Peggy) Diehl; sister-in-law, Betty; brother-in-law, Ernest; grandchildren, Pierre, Antwain, Anre, Bria; and 7 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Nie Family Funeral Homes Carpenter Rd. Chapel on Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 2-5pm. COVID-19 Visitor Guidelines apply:

Please avoid personal contact like shaking hands or hugging, please extend verbal salutations

Please wash your hands with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds under running water
Please avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
