Marjorie Elizabeth Wright, age 75, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 06, 2021, at Arbor Hospice in Saline, Michigan.
Marjorie was born on December 02, 1945, in Flint, Michigan, to Rev. Andrew and Elizabeth (Molnar) Nagy. Marjorie, along with her older sister, Eileen, were raised in Flint and graduated from Flint Central High School. Following graduation, Marjorie spent a year taking classes at Flint Junior College and later transferred to Central Michigan University where she would earn a bachelor’s degree in education.
On Sunday, October 24, 1965, at 10:20 am, Marjorie met Paul Wright through her roommate. Paul knew as soon as he saw her that he would want to spend the rest of his life with her. The two married four years later on June 28, 1969, in Flint, Michigan and spent a wonderful 56 years 2 weeks, 1 hour 40 minutes knowing, loving, and supporting one another.
After graduation in 1968, Marjorie became the Program Director at the Cedar Street Children’s Center in Flint. After relocating to Paul’s hometown of Ann Arbor, Marjorie worked at Perry Nursery School until taking time off to raise and care for her own children, Michelle, and David.
Eventually, Marjorie returned to teaching and obtained a position within the Ann Arbor School system. She spent an incredible 31 years helping children of Ann Arbor. Additionally, she held a part-time position for 22 years at St. Paul United Church of Christ as Christian Education Director. She officially retired on June 18, 2010, the same day her husband, Paul, retired from his longstanding position at the University of Michigan, to enjoy retirement together.
Marjorie was always busy helping and caring for others- even in her spare time. She was co-founder and music director for a group called Common Chords, a hand chime choir for the developmentally disabled. She also spent 30 years as a mentor in Friendship Ministries Ann Arbor chapter. Friendship Ministries is a not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) organization that promotes the spiritual development of youth and adults who have intellectual disabilities and encourages churches to include them in their fellowship. When she wasn’t helping others, she cherished creating memories with her family at their summer home at Whitmore Lake, Michigan. Being with her family brought her an endless amount of joy, especially when she was blessed with being a grandmother to Mariana and Madeline.
Marjorie will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Paul Wright; her children, Michelle (Michael) Williams and David Wright: her granddaughters, Mariana and Madeline Williams; her sister, Eileen Nagy; and nieces and nephew, Elizabeth (Jack) Potter, Lauretta Nagy, and Franklin (Amy) Nagy; as well as the hundreds of lives she touched along her way.
