Obituary for Mark "Tony" Nelson
Mark “Tony” Nelson, 65 of Marshall, MI passed away peacefully March 14th, 2022 after a long, hard fight.
Tony was born June 2, 1956 in Texas, the Air Force son of John Edwin Nelson and Frances “Fritz” (Bowers) Nelson. He moved several times with his brothers, Andy and Tim, and his sister, Terry Nelson, all who preceded him in death. They ultimately ended up in Ann Arbor and he attended Pioneer High School, where he met his wife of 45 years, Kathy (Newsted) Nelson.
Tony loved everything with an engine. He started working on cars and motorcycles at a very young age. This ignited a lifelong passion of riding and racing. Together they went on to have two children, Nick Nelson and Tricia (Jeff) Carter. Tony devoted his life to his wife, working for Toyota, and sharing his passion for all things off-road with his children and grandchildren, Olivia, Deagan, and Tessa Carter. He loved making souped up cars and trucks, riding dirt bikes and ATVs, and teaching those around him.
In retirement, he became an amazing woodworker and enjoyed time in his pole barn or tooling around on the UTV. He loved traveling with his wife and taking his grandkids on vacations.
“Poppie” will be greatly missed, but his family takes comfort knowing he is riding on in heaven with his son.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 18, 2022 from 5-8pm and Saturday March 19, from 10-11am with the funeral service following at 11am at Nie Family Funeral Home Carpenter Road Chapel located at 2400 Carpenter Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48108. Tony will be buried next to his son, Nick in Fairview Cemetery, Brighton, MI immediately following.
