Obituary for Mary Faith Oh (Sample)

Mary Faith (Sample) Oh, 80, passed away November 20, 2022 from natural causes.

Mary, the eldest of three children, was born on May 30, 1942, in Baltimore, MD, to James Alvin Sample and Rosemary Faith Sample, both of whom are deceased. She grew up in Aberdeen, MD, and was a 1961 graduate of Aberdeen High School. She spent the remainder of her years in Ann Arbor, Michigan, graduating with a B.S. degree in Physics from the University of Michigan in 1965.

While working at UMICH as a student, she met and later married her husband, the late Joon Sup Oh, in the Physics lab, nicknamed the Bubble Chamber. She worked for the University as a medical Data Programmer for over 50 years, helping to compile data for medical study publications. Mary was a Wolverine fan of all sports, but especially football, and we all know she is pleased with this years’ performance. Her other interests were her extended family, including nieces, nephews, and cousins and she has lifelong friends who all are mourning her loss.

She is survived by her brother, James Warren Sample and his wife, Karen Parr Sample, of Greenleaf, ID; sister, Laura Sample Coykendall and her husband, Gary Lynn Coykendall, of Poulsbo, WA; nephew, James Matthew (Mary Jo) Sample of Homedale, ID; great niece, Ashley (Chad) Beverage, Nampa, ID; nephew, Scott Thomas (Kara) Coykendall of Kingston, WA; niece, Kami Sample (Robert) Kelley, and great niece Reagan Kelley, of Meridian, ID; niece, Kari Michelle Coykendall-Millard, of Kingston, WA and her children, Alex Coykendall and Sean Patrick Millard, of Western Washington; nephew, Patrick Joseph Kendall (Amanda) Kendall and great nephew, William Kendall and great niece, Meredith Kendall, of San Antonio, TX; and niece, Ashley Sample (Michael) Garmire and great nieces, Scout Garmire, Hero Garmire, and great nephew, Shepherd Garmire, of Greenleaf, Idaho.

Her extended family includes sister-in-law, Myung Hee Byun; nephews & nieces, Yeon Sang Oh, Jeung Ok Hong, Myung Keun Chang, Eunin Oh Chang, Jae Kap Lee, Seungjin Oh Lee, all of Seoul, Korea; grand nephews and nieces, Se Jun Oh, of New York City, NY, and Se Min Oh, Mariel Chang, and Hayeon Lee, all of Seoul, Korea.

She is also survived by widespread cousins, Doris McPeak, Anne Whitson, Frances Long (Jerry) Stogsdill, Bruce Long, Kathy Gomez, George Faith, Tom (DeEtte) Faith, Robert Faith, James Faith, Mary Catherine Gallina, Patricia Hine and Susan Sovik. Lifelong family friends include Jane (Dave) Dunatchik, of Bloomington, IN, Naomi Gaslau, of Asland, OH, Betty Armbruster, of Bonita Springs, FL, Marva Ringgold Choates, of Aberdeen, MD Diana Sheets Wilmoth, Sun City, AZ, and Virginia Ambrose Weaver, Dallastown, PA.
