Obituary for Mary K. Pfaus

Mary K. Pfaus died on January 31, 2020 at the age of 90. She was born March 3, 1929 to Karl and Lydia Geiger. She was a long-time resident of Ann Arbor, until she retired and moved to the Dexter area. She married Miles Pfaus and they were married for 9 wonderful years.

She was the beloved wife of the late Miles. Loving mother of Kathleen (the late Jeffrey) Klien, Susan Weber, Patricia (Eric) Kahn, and the late Robert Weber. Dearest step-mom of the late Richard (Diane) Pfaus, Thomas Pfaus, Cathy (David) Blankenburg, and the late Garry (Deanna) Pfaus. Cherished Oma of Steven (Lynn) Kahn, Karl Weber, Laura Kahn, Cynthia Weber, and Kaitlyn (Steve) Lesniewicz. Dear step-grandmother of Christopher Pfaus, Bryce Blankenburg, Myles Pfaus, and Elizabeth (Georges) Habalian. Dearest great-grandmother of John, Lucas, Lena, Oskar, and Georgie. Sister of Barbara (Luther) Schaible and the late Frederick Geiger. Mary is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents.

Mary was an active lifelong member of Zion Lutheran church in Ann Arbor, involved in many activities. She enjoyed helping with the youth and participating in bible studies. She was also a member of the GBU #630 for many years. She enjoyed many German themed activities with this club as their Vice President along with doing a lot of volunteer work with them. Her German heritage also flowed into other activities in her life such as fun times in German park and trips to Germany.

Besides these clubs, Mary enjoyed other volunteering opportunities and hobbies. She helped at the after school program at Peace Neighborhood Center in Ann Arbor and The Ann Arbor Sister City program received her assistance to organize cultural exchange activities. And in the free time Mary found between all of this, she also enjoyed time at home quilting, basket weaving, and gardening.

A visitation will take place Thursday, February 6, 2020 from 3-7 pm at the Nie Family Funeral Home, 3767 W. Liberty Rd., Ann Arbor, MI. In addition, a visitation hour will be provided Friday, February 7, 2020 from 10 am until time of funeral service at 11 am at Zion Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Liberty Ann Arbor, MI. Interment will take place at Bethlehem Cemetery, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church, Peace Neighborhood Center, or Arbor Hospice.
