Obituary for Matthew E. Hogan

Matthew passed over to join Iris his wife of more than 60 years the evening of Nov 6, 2019. Iris
preceded Matthew in passing on Feb 3, 2013. During his life Matthew served as a United States Marine
in the 1940s and subsequently built a successful career with the Detroit Edison company in Michigan.
The family relocated from St Clair Shores MI to Ann Arbor MI in 1964 where they lived for the next 55
years.

Matthew and Iris had 7 children: James and wife Arnita, Frisco, TX; Matthew and wife Sara, White Lake,
MI; Nancy Miller and husband Alan, Brighton, MI; Janice Weston and husband Ron, Ann Arbor, MI;
Pamela, Ypsilanti, MI and Kevin and wife Carolyn, Saline, MI. Son Charles, Riverside, CA preceded his
parents in passing in 2003.

Matthew and Iris had 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren living in MI, TX, FL, KY, OH, IL and NC.
Matthew’s children were at his side when he passed peacefully of natural causes
Matthew and Iris shared a rich life, traveled extensively, worked hard, set great examples for their
children and grandchildren. Their teaching and modeling of core values served to underpin the
successes of their children and serve as an enduring legacy for future generations of the Hogan Clan.
Matthew’s family and friends wish this Marine fair winds and following seas as he embarks on the next
great adventure.

A Memorial gathering will take place Thursday, November 14, 2019 from 10 am until time of Memorial
service at 11 am at Nie Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Rd., Ann Arbor. Burial of cremated remains and
Military Honors will take place immediately following the service at Forest Hill Cemetery, Ann Arbor,
Michigan.
