To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven. Michael Cattran’s season began March 9, 1961 and was finished October 1st. A good and generous man, son, brother and friend, Michael was always willing to help others. His positive attitude during his illness was amazing and inspirational, though his usual infectious laugh was too seldom heard.
A boyhood talent for mechanical things morphed into a fascination for the internal combustion engine, as well as a collection of too many vehicles and an avid devotion to NASCAR. Though always tinkering with cars at home, Michael has worked for Golden Limousine for the last 25 years. He began as a driver, then dispatcher and, most recently, his favorite job there, Fleet Manager.
Michael loved to cook and it was he, not his sister, who took a number of his mother’s recipes when he left the nest. As a Detroit Lions fan (somebody has to do it), Michael loved watching their games. Of course, it was Go Blue as well! Visiting his stepmother’s cottage on Lake Michigan was a favorite activity, and he and companion Cindy took their camper to several NASCAR meets each year. There were difficulties during his teen years, but Michael had a special relationship with his Grandma Nagy, who took him and his sister to Sunday school and helped shape the fine person he became.
Michael was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Leigh Cattran; father, Lawrence Cattran; aunt and uncle, Kerry and Eric Nagy; and grandparents, Sam and Eleanor Nagy. He will be deeply mourned by his longtime partner and best friend, Cindy Hart. She has been by his side through this whole struggle and will greatly miss his companionship and love. Also grieving are his mother, Judith Cattran (Richard Martinez); stepmom, Cindy Byrne (Rod); aunt, Diane Ake (Rick); cousins, Kim Steinbock (Keith), Mike Nagy (Kelly) and Joe Nagy (Lori); and many, many friends. Cherish those dear to you and hold them in your heart while you can.
Those wishing to make a donation in Michael’s name are welcome to contribute to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, which is working toward a cure for bile duct cancer, which killed his sister Leigh.
