Obituary for Nancy Louise Lash (Sines)

Nancy Louise Lash went Home to be with her Creator on December 18th, 2022. She passed away peacefully, at home, in her sleep after her years-long battle with dementia. She had her loving husband and caretaker, Robert Lash, close nearby.

Nancy was born on July 27th, 1950 to Thomas Sines and Martha (Rodamann) Sines. She was preceded in death by both of her parents as well as her older brother, Mike Sines, and sister-in-law, Dotty Sines. In addition to her husband, Robert, she is survived by her two children and their spouses: Andrea and Josh Tarhanich (of Westland, MI) and Eric and Liz Lash (of Temperance, MI). She also leaves behind two grandchildren, Matthew and Abigail Lash, her younger brother, David Sines, and many other extended family members.

Nancy graduated high school and enrolled into the University of Michigan in 1967. She enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1969 and was called into active duty in 1971. Nancy was proud to have served her country as an Army Nurse for over 4 years. She followed her time with the U.S. Army with a career in nursing, working as an R.N. for the Veterans Association. She retired from the V.A. Hospital of Ann Arbor, Michigan after 42 years of employment.

It was during her time in the military that she met her husband, Robert Lash, and they were married on October 12th, 1974. After many years of marriage, they were blessed with their daughter, Andrea, on September 5th, 1986. Their son, Eric, was born on May 26th, 1989. They became grandparents on February 5th, 2019, when their grandson, Matthew Lash, was born. Their granddaughter, Abigail Lash, was born a year later, on September 25th, 2020. Nancy was so grateful for her family and the joy that they brought to her, as well as for the care, support, and happiness that she brought to them. She was extremely proud to be a wife, mother, and grandmother, living out those callings well and being the loving heart and caring soul that the family needed.

Nancy came to Faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior in her late 50’s, beginning a relationship with her Heavenly Father that would change her life and eternity thereafter. She was a long-time member of Oakwood Church in Saline, Michigan, serving in ministry in various capacities throughout her time there. Her favorite of all of these was undoubtedly working in the nursery, loving others’ children and caring for them well.

Nancy was always the first one to offer a hug in times of joy or sorrow. She was a listening ear and soft shoulder to cry on when others needed it most. She was one of the most accepting and gracious individuals you could ever meet. Most importantly, she loved well; taking after the example of Jesus as He ministered to others who were considered “the least of these” (Matthew 25:40). She will be missed but leaves a legacy and example behind to be admired and followed.

Please join us for her memorial service to celebrate her life on January 6th at Nie Funeral Home, in Ann Arbor, MI (3767 W. Liberty Road). Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and the memorial service will follow from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
