Obituary for Rama Nand Roy
Rama Nand Roy, age 78, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.
Rama was born the eldest child to Ram Shreshtha and Shanti (Shukla) Roy in Bihar, India where he enjoyed an active childhood with his sister, Shakuntala.
In 1965, Rama met Urmila Shahi and the two married in India. Urmila remained in India while Rama was working towards earning his master’s degree in engineering at the University of London in England. In 1974, after he graduated, Rama and Urmila relocated together to Brazil as he obtained a position at Ford Motor Co. While living in Brazil, they welcomed a daughter, Ranjana, into their family in 1977. In September of 1985, the Roy family relocated once more to Ann Arbor, Michigan for a position Rama obtained with General Motors. Rama later worked for several other automotive companies and enjoyed being a part of different engineering projects. He was enthusiastic about electric cars and worked on several projects involving it.
In his spare time, Rama enjoyed being active and exploring nature on either a good walk or a bicycle ride. He also looked forward to traveling with his family on vacation once a year. Together, they would explore different places and adventures. Above all else, Rama loved to be surrounded by his wife and daughter.
Rama was preceded in death by his parents, Ram and Shanti Roy.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Urmila Roy; his daughter, Ranjana Roy; his sister, Shakuntala Roy; and his great-nephew, Prakash.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 10 am until 11 am at Nie Family Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
