Obituary for Bob Monforton

Robert P. Monforton (Bob) passed away on November 13, 2019, in his 86th year. Bob was born and raised in Dearborn, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Joan Monforton (Rickelmann), his brother Marc Monforton, and his son James Monforton. Bob is survived by his brother, Rene Monforton (wife Michelle), children Joseph Monforton (wife Toni), Marie Cornell, and Margaret Monforton (husband Paul Cordts), as well as his six beloved grand-children, Jeffrey, Emily, Paige, Aaron, Jedidiah and Abigail. Bob was a Track Supervisor for DT&I and Grand Trunk Western railroads. He also worked in railroad oversight for the State of Michigan, and volunteered for Operation Lifesaver for many years, teaching children and adults about railroad safety. Bob was an avid model railroad enthusiast and a loving father and grandfather. Visitation will be held Friday, November 15 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Nie Family Funeral Home at 3767 W. Liberty Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48103. His funeral will be Saturday, November 16, at St. Mary Magdalen parish in Brighton at 10:00 a.m. with viewing the hour before.
Bob donated to charities focused on Native American schools, military and veteran support, and relief for the underprivileged. Donations in his memory can be made to Detroit Rescue Mission, the Christian Appalachian Project, Wounded Warrior, or the charity of your choice.
