Obituary for Robert "Bob" William Taylor

Robert William Taylor, age 82, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, passed away at home under hospice care on Friday, March 3, 2023.

Bob was born on February 16, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan to parents William and Alice (Hillmer) Taylor. The Taylor family relocated to Almont, Michigan. Bob graduated from Almont High School in 1959 and then began taking classes at Central Michigan University and later at Flint Junior College.

He soon relocated to Ypsilanti, Michigan where he married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Trott, on August 25, 1961. They welcomed two children together, Troy and Erin.

While working at Ypsilanti Savings Bank, one of Bob’s friends suggested he apply for a position at the Ypsilanti Fire Department. He spent 27 years with the Ypsilanti Fire Department as EMT, Fire Inspector, and Captain. Later, he was Fire Marshal for the State of Michigan. He also worked for the Ann Arbor Marriot Ypsilanti as well as the Eagle Crest Golf Course.

He was active on the board of directors for Highland Cemetery of Ypsilanti and for the Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels. He was active with the JayCee’s on local, state, and national levels.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alice Taylor, and his sister, Margaret (Raymond) Andrews.

Bob will be deeply missed by his wife of 61 years, Nancy Taylor; his children, Troy (Danette) Taylor and Erin (Alex) Piec; his grandchildren, Zachary Taylor, Jacob Taylor, and Delaney Piec; and his brother, Kenneth (Mary) Taylor.

Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Starkweather Chapel Restoration Fund, Highland Cemetery, 943 N. River Street, Ypsilanti, MI 48198, Arbor Hospice, 2366 Oak Valley Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48103, or to Michigan Firehouse Museum and Education Center, 110 W. Cross Street, Ypsilanti, MI 48197.
