Obituary for Roen Cameron Starr

Our red-headed angel, Roen Cameron Starr, was born without a heartbeat on October 28, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Ypsilanti, MI. Roen is the cherished son of Scott and Amanda Starr (Hicks). He was born at 8:19 pm at 39 weeks and weighed 5 lbs 12 oz and was 19.5 inches long. Although he never spent any time with us on Earth, he was very loved and touched many lives. He loved kicking his dad in response to his name, moving when his mom gently pushed his little butt out of her ribs, and jumping in response to Lily and Kylo’s barks, licks, and headrests.

He is greeted in heaven by his great-grandfathers David Cameron, Orville Hicks, and James Starr, and great-grandmothers Elinor Cameron, Louise Smoot, and Jackie Hicks who are fighting to get to hold him. He is surrounded by his fur sisters that are helping keep him warm and entertained. He is mourned here on Earth by great-grandparents Janet Starr and John Smoot, grandparents Deanna Hicks, Larry Hicks, Linda Vitols, Dianne Starr, and Thomas Starr, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and so many dear friends.

Scott and Amanda would like to personally thank our nurses Nioly, Lara, Kelly, Ciara, Amanda, and Michelle and numerous doctors at St. Joseph’s for all of their love, compassion, and support during this tough time. We will forever be grateful.

Sometimes, it’s the smallest things that take up the most room in our hearts.

There will be no services held.

Letters of support can be mailed to Scott and Amanda in care of Nie Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48108.

Donations can be made to Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep (https://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org/donate/) in honor of Roen and helping families recover from the loss of a child. Vera with Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep graciously donated pictures for us to remember our dear Roen.

The images below show how much we loved our baby boy, his blessing ceremony, remembrance mementos from the hospital, and his cremation services donated by the Nie Family Funeral Home.
