Ruth Mary Calista (Cramer) Haessler peacefully passed away at her home in Superior Township, Michigan, December 6, 2021.
Ruth was born in Monroe, Michigan on February 13, 1926, to Floyd and Ella (Reisig) Cramer. She graduated from Monroe High School where she played French horn in the band and was a flag twirler. After graduating from high school Ruth worked at Consolidated Paper Company. On October 15, 1949, she married Luther Haessler. She was a homemaker who loved raising two children and being involved in their activities. Ruth was active in St. Luke’s church choir and working with the altar guild.
In 1955, prior to the polio vaccine, while living in Huron, Ohio, she contracted polio and spent 6 months at the Cleveland Clinic with a successful recovery.
Ruth enjoyed traveling as a young adult and after her husband retired, they traveled to Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, France, England, and Scandinavia. Numerous trips were made to Florida to visit her sisters as well as to Leelanau County where Luther was born and her daughter and husband reside, as well as Pennsylvania where her son and wife live.
However, her real love was spending time with her grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She cherished and loved them deeply.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brothers, Carl and Floyd; and sisters, Jeanette and Arlynn.
She is survived by her daughter, Lois (Keith) Schwarz; son, Richard (Amy) Haessler; grandchildren, Christine (Kevin) Starcher, Lynda (Andrew) Hauman, Jeffrey (Jean Parker) Haessler; step granddaughter, Kimberly Clifton; great grandchildren, Levi and Laurel Starcher and Elliot and Fern Hauman; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Home Instead as well as the excellent help provided by Arbor Hospice.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 12, 2021 from 3 pm to 7 pm at Nie Family Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Rd., Ann Arbor, Michigan. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, December 13, at 11 am at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 4205 Washtenaw Ave. with a visitation preceding at 10 am.
The family requests that masks be worn when attending the visitation at the funeral home, and the funeral service at St. Luke’s church.
