Obituary for Sebastian Michael "Mike" D'Aquila

Sebastian Michael D’Aquila

Born on February 15, 1946. Detroit MI
Died on December 1, 2020 Ypsilanti, MI

Our loving and protective big brother. Known as Mike to the family. He was in the vanguard, an individual ahead of his time, demonstrating life achievements and success attainable for the disabled long before those challenges were center stream in our consciousness. Against the odds, he secured accomplishments and recognition within General Motors and their E-Systems, enabling and improving their nascent computer programming systems in their early days. Upon retirement, he fulfilled his dreams of watching over the family and his adventures with the crew of the Starship Enterprise. Brother, may you live long and prosper.

Born the eldest child of Carl and Marie D’Aquila, at an early age he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and lived out his life facing those challenges. Rather than subdue, that condition motivated him to try and to achieve despite the difficulties. A graduate of Wayne State University, he enjoyed a successful career and was recognized on numerous occasions for his accomplishments. These ranged from corporate achievements to trophies at disabled games.

He is survived by his sister, Patricia Loney (Neil), and brothers Anthony (Linda) and John; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews too numerous to mention. He will be missed by all.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that contributions be provided to the Washtenaw County Humane Society.
