Shirley J. (Miller) Thayer passed away, at home, on October 16, 2021 at the age of 93. She was born to Phyllis and Harry Miller in Detroit, Michigan and was lovingly raised by her grandparents on their fruit farm. She graduated from Plymouth High School and attended Cosmetology School after graduating. In 1950, Shirley married her love, Carl Thayer. Together they raised their sons, John and Michael. She spent 39 years working for the public school system. Shirley also served her community as an Election Worker and regularly worked her family’s farm booth at the Ann Arbor Farmer’s Market. She was proud of her family’s farming legacy and ties to the Miller Woods Preserve in Plymouth, Michigan.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Carl Thayer; her loving son, John Thayer; her cherished grandchildren, Kelly and Philip; her daughter-in-law Terry and many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, dear son, Michael Thayer; grandson, Michael; and siblings Anthia and Paul.

A burial will take place at Arborcrest Cemetery in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Monday, October 25, 2021 at 1:00pm.
