Obituary for Stephanie Marie Carlson (Perkins)
Stephanie Marie Carlson, of Ypsilanti, passed away on March 1st, 2022 after a brave battle with cancer. Stephanie was known for being a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend.
Stephanie was born on August 27, 1975. She was the youngest of 11 children born to Donald and Patricia Perkins. Stephanie grew up in Grand Ledge, Michigan where her love of the outdoors started.
Western Michigan University became her home during college where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. WMU is also where she met Chris Carlson, her loving husband of 19 years. They were married on September 14, 2002. On October 14, 2005, Stephanie gave birth to their daughter Molly.
During the first few years of Molly’s life, Stephanie put her teaching passion to work being a stay at home mom. Stephanie allowed Molly to grow and learn through making messes, mistakes, and laughter.
Most recently, Stephanie taught at Bryant Elementary in Ann Arbor for 7 years. During her time there, she taught 1st Grade, Kindergarten and Preschool while also earning her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Eastern Michigan University. Stephanie had a true passion for teaching and helping grow the minds of children with love and caring. Every morning, she would greet her students at the door with a hug and a smile as they entered her classroom.
During her summers, weekends and evenings, Stephanie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, camping, cooking, skiing, and swimming. She was always up to try new things and go on new adventures with those she loved and cared about.
Stephanie is survived by her husband, Chris and daughter, Molly. She is also survived by her 7 sisters and 2 brothers, 27 nieces and nephews, and 1 grand niece, as well as many friends she has made throughout the years.
A visitation for Stephanie will be held on Friday, March 4, from 4:00pm-6:00pm at Nie Family Funeral Home at 2400 Carpenter Road in Ann Arbor, MI.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to: A College Donation Fund created for Molly Carlson. Code: G3N-Q4F or The Ypsilanti District Library Bookmobile to support literacy in the community.
